Somehow, when I was putting this outfit together, I think my generational ties to the Great Commonwealth of Virginia (“God’s Country” as it’s lovingly referred to by my parents and family) were cropping up in my mind.  Perhaps, it’s my luv of Middleburg!  Maybe, my delirium from this crazy flu I’ve had for the last week!  Anyway.  Enough psychoanalysis!  Whatever the reason, I kept thinking, “Oh DEAR!  The polo ponies (each one of them dark auburn, my favorite; with its leather harness with the shiny engraved brass name plate) are loose again!  We must fetch them and put them back in the coral!  Eventually, they need to be returned to the (heated) barn (accented by a dozen brass chandeliers and handmade tile floor).  Then, put them in their horsey p.j.’s and put them in their proper (identified with their very own name plaque) stable for a comfy night’s sleep.  It’s cold at night here in Virginia!”  I’m sure I was saying this as I was driving away in my vintage Morgan!!  Because, I’ll give it to ya straight!  I don’t have any polo ponies, nor would I know how to coral loose ones, nor do I drive a Morgan.  It’s o.k.  I’m not sad.  I can dress like I do!  Even if my skirt is from Walmart and my sweater and shirt are from Kohl’s, because you know what?  It’s not the clothes, jewelry, furs, cars, houses, money or PONIES that are truly gonna make you happy.  It’s your relationship first of all with Christ, then your family, then others that will bring pure joy to your heart.  It’s all how you choose your life to be!  So, instead, I’ll wear this to a Christmas Presentation at my Church tonight.  That is the only place I would want to be on this night.  Not even a fantasy could look THAT appealing!!!  I’ve learned from heartbreaking and earned life experience.  Yes.  The School of Hard Knocks, where the school colors are black and blue!  Wearing 30 carats worth of diamonds, wearing mink, living with a lake view, having a grand piano in your “music room” and drivin’ a Jag ain’t (Sorry.  Virginia comin’ out in me!) gonna make ya happy, if your heart’s not right and breaking!  Back not so oh long ago, I would’ve told you just the opposite.  Not anymore.  Been there, done that!  I’m thankful for the experiences in my life that finally woke me up to that fact!  What valuable lessons have you had to learn the hard way?  Now, at this point in my life, I know that, not only I could live the dream, but could be thankful for the blessing of it too.  AND most importantly not to judge others, but help them in any way that God shows me I could.  You’re right, the fantasy you’re chasing could lead you to New York, Paris, London, LA, but once you had “arrived” you would find that you brought yourself with you.  You have to have a heart that travels well!  That’s somethin’ you learn from a God and a church that loves you, not livin’ the fantasy!
